About the LVSA
The Dutch National Association of Academic Advisors (LVSA) is a professional association for and represents the interests of academic advisors from Dutch universities. The LVSA was founded in 1984 and has about 750 members.
The LVSA informs its members about developments in the field of study counseling and study guidance, stimulates the professionalization of its members by offering courses and seminars, promotes knowledge and information sharing through various platforms, invests in its (international) network and promotes its members' interests.
Vision on academic advising
Academic advising contributes to students' personal development and study success by supporting them in a goal-oriented and independent approach to their studies. This support contributes to the development of skills such as making well-founded study choices, effective study behavior, and identifying and developing the competencies required for study and the job market/work field.
The academic advisor is an important link between the program and the student. From this position, the academic advisor looks at the feasibility of student success in a program, contributes to the policies within the program and acts proactively.
For literature and courses in English, the LVSA refers to our colleagues in the United Kingdom at UKAT and our American colleagues at NACADA. Both offer reading materials and (online) courses and seminars in English.
